To celebrate Zac & I's birthdays, Tab organized a fun night out at Gus's! I tried a new drink (a Cosmo),
Tab got a French cognac, Nathan got a "breakfast" martini (ie: with orange juice), and Zac got some
sort of Tequila drink (sidenote: I keep trying to force myself to like Tequila.I fear I may not be doing it right though. Any Tequila-themed
advice appreciated).
Later, for our second round, Tab and I returned to our old reliable white russians, and zac and natahan
got some citrus-y cocktails. I really liked the one nathan got (it was SUPER citrus-y) but I can't remember
the name of it for the life of me.
As for eats, we got three bowls of french onion soup and a french-dip sandwhich. Not the best french onion
i've ever had, but warm and savory and oily and delicious regardless.
Tab only had one request for her birthday-- all you can eat sushi. She found Mira
after someone informed her that the all-you-can-eat meal was free on your birthday.
Even though the other party-goers did not get discounts, it was priced at a fairly reasonable $30 price
point. After splitting 7 full sized rolls, six bowls of miso soup, and an order of crab ragoon, I'd say we
got out money's worth.
My sister and I accompanied my cousin on her first visit to Chinatown!
She saw alot of videos online about some of the eats there, and we were happy to confirm that they were
just as delicious as they appeared on film.
Our day was kinda structured like a food-tour. We really hopped around the area. Aong the stand outs from
the morning were the egg custard "piggy" buns and fruit smoothies from Joyee.
I love tapas. Spanish food may be the most underrated cusine.
Atleast in my book. The only other Spainish food I've had was from Cafe Baba-Reeba.
Is that authentic? I don't think I'll ever have enough money to fly to Spain and
find out. Anyways. The food was delish-- we had papas bravas and a savory seafood
dish with mussels and tomatos. We also got bacon-wrapped dates (classic) and
two drinks. I got a Sangria, Nicole got some blue thing called a "Picasso."
also look at my pretty girlfriend...
Kathia & Ryan have been selling crepes at farmer markets across Chicago since 2010. My mom and I always
make sure to stop by the summer market outside the Museum of Contemporary Art to visit them. Genuienly one
of the sweetest vendors in the world.
Nabala is a Palestinian cafe in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago.
Besides specializing in coffee & middle eastern treats, it also hosts a variety of events near-daily, including musical
performances, stand-up, and film screenings.
I visited Nabala during the day, while exploring the Northside before work. The cafe has free wifi and many people were doing work.
I ended up staying for around three hours while I finished some legal research.
