First Things First...

This May, I entered my fourth law school exam period. Less scary than the first (only one of my classes was curved), less anxiety-producing than the second (im medicated now), but goodness gracias, so much more busy than the third. Besides studying, I had to finish up clinic and internship hours. That's on me for taking a clinic and a intership at the same time though. My advisor told me not to do it. However, I have this condition where if someone tells me "you can't do that, its too much work!" I will scoff and do it anyways.

Honestly, I think I was in the right here. All the work I put into prepping for the employment discrimination trial basically carried me to 1/3 of my hour requirment by the second month. And my internship was so chill with scheduling that they let me do extra hours on my off days from home. Plus, I had the foresight to take my most labor-intensive class pass-fail. So I was in pretty good shape by exam period, if not simply busy.

Moving On Up

Immediately after exam period concluded, I moved into my first apartment. Its a quaint little thing. Its actually the first apartment we toured. If you have seen my pin board, you know I spent time meticulously mapping out furniture in an IKEA dollhouse.

a green couch

My favorite item (and the one I am writing this blog from) is our sage green couch. The set used to be this drab brown stain, so she sanded it down and repainted it! The top of the dresser was scratched up beyond saving, so she also applied this very twee wallpaper to it. The effect is a very charming and whimsical statement piece for our living room :)

My other favorite item(s) is this sage green dresser/cabinet set my aunt made for us.

We also invested in some new bookshelves from IKEA

Honestly, these things were the death of me. They were heavy asf and had one of the more confusing instructional booklets. Though, maybe I was just too tired to appreciate the Swedish engineering. They look beautiful put up though. Right now, we have Nicole's whole library here. I have not brought my books yet because I frankly did not want to carry them. Though, comparatively, its only one box. I'm really more of a library book type.

I should mention that we had to get all this stuff up the tinest staircase in the world. Its honestly a miracle that no one fell backwards and was crushed. Oh, and of course it was near 85 degrees F that day. When it rains it pours etc. I finished the day feeling overwhelming grateful for all our loved ones that helped us out. I felt incredibly loved.

Anniversary

We very kindly started our date at IHOP. To my knowledge, this is the only IHOP in Chicago-proper. Why its in the gay bar district I could not tell you. Strangly, neighter of us actually ordered pancakes. I got a french toast platter and Nicole got chicken and waffles. It was delicious.

Afterwards we went to Graceland and walked around a bit, as is tradition. It was a beautiful day.

still, it was very hot so I wore my Alice Girl Strawberry JSK. You can't see in the photos but I also wore matching red and white gingham socks with little crochet cherries pinned on them. There is something about these photos that is bugging me proportionally. I generally like longer cuts of dresses irl, but the shorter cuts look better in photos. Alas.

Memorial Day

I had Memorial Day off this year. I KNOW. I am suprised as you. But after the Memorial Day weekend rush at work, I severely needed a break. Thus, I decided to spend it deliciously :)

We started off the day by walking over to a local coffee shop and grabbing a sandwhich. It was legit one of the tastiest sandwhiches I've had in a while-- goat cheese, fig jam, and bacon. SO GOOD. It was actually Nicole's sandwhich, but she fed me bites as we walked lol. We poked around some shops before heading back home to watch the Sox game. I fell asleep halfway through, but we won (YAY). and visted friends.

I wore my old bodyline JSK this day. I really miss when bodyline used to make sturdy cotton jsks like this. Their storefront now is so sad and temu-like :'( Plus all the old stuff sells for like $100 now, which is crazy cause I got this jsk for $20 four years ago. Nostalgia is a crazy drug.

A little later in the day, I headed back downtown to go hang out with friends. We got some delicious treats and unexpectantly got to chat with some old coworkers. All in all, a nice end to the month.
